What this role involves

Martinrea International is hiring a PLC Programmer at its Vaughan operations, an automotive parts manufacturing environment built around welding and robotic production equipment. The role is a hands-on plant controls position: keeping automated equipment running, finding faults when it stops, and improving the programs behind it. The main accountabilities are troubleshooting equipment made up of weld controllers, robotics and programmable logic controllers, and repairing the components that cause downtime. The programmer designs electrical and electronic circuits, programs PLCs along with AC and DC drives and servo drives, and modifies robot programs, PLC programs and machine screen interfaces as production needs change. Welding is central to the plant, so the role includes adjusting MIG and spot welding schedules on weld controllers from Medar, Lincoln, Miller and Panasonic, and changing welding consumables as part of keeping the cells running. Regular equipment maintenance rounds out the position, along with responsibility for making sure program changes maintain or improve part quality and respect the plant's safety requirements. The work suits someone with an electro-mechanical technician background who is comfortable moving between a laptop on the PLC, a robot teach pendant and the weld equipment itself. The posting does not state a salary.
