CoolIT Systems is hiring an Automation Engineer for its Calgary manufacturing team, where the work centres on turning manual and semi-automated production processes into fully integrated assembly and product testing systems for the company's direct liquid cooling products. Day to day, the role designs, programs, integrates and commissions automated manufacturing and test equipment, and keeps improving it once it is running. That includes developing the controls architecture for new machines — functional requirements, machine sequences, I/O layouts, network architecture and equipment integration strategies — and then programming, troubleshooting and commissioning the PLCs, HMIs, servo-motion systems and industrial or collaborative robots at the heart of each line. The engineer integrates the full mix of components around those controllers: vision systems, sensors, safety systems, pneumatics, test equipment and industrial communication networks, and leads automation projects from concept and design through programming, testing, installation, commissioning, validation and production ramp-up to final hand-off. Robot experience is a real part of the job — programming, integrating, teaching and commissioning industrial or collaborative robots, with platforms such as Universal Robots, EPSON, FANUC, ABB and Yaskawa named in the posting — as is configuring, tuning and troubleshooting servo drives, servo motors and motion control systems.
